Subjective Well-Being as a Potential Policy Indicator in the Context of Urbanization and Forest Restoration

The enhancement of human well-being is one the ultimate goals resource management; however, it not explicitly considered by forest policy indicators. Our previous studies examined how Japanese citizens in Yasu River watershed Shiga Prefecture perceived subjective related to forests (forest SWB). We found a negative correlation between SWB and ownership, suggesting dissatisfaction with low profitability ownership. Based on this result, paper, we argue that can be an important indicator for policymaking context urbanization restoration complement existing indicators focusing mainly physical objective properties. First, propose direct measurement (e.g., SWB) preferable over indirect GDP), processes forests. Second, reflect quality our interactions forests, which urbanized societies tend have reduced experiences nature. Third, could identify inequalities users ecosystem services managers. Overall, holistic capture variety perspectives held citizens.
